We have for many years used RECYCLED paper and card for our letters and brochures, in additional to trying to send documents via a secure electronic portal where practical.
We recently ran out of small envelopes and asked our local supplier what options we had for recycled envelopes. They found a suitable product which means we’ve taken another small step towards reducing our environmental impact.
Research in this article says that recycling causes 35 per cent less water pollution and 74 per cent less air pollution than making new paper. Recycling a tonne of newspaper also eliminates 3 cubic meters of landfill. As paper decomposes in the ground it produces methane, which is a powerful greenhouse gas. On balance it seems that recycling paper is still much better than producing it from fresh pulp.
We are proud to be using recycled envelopes although I’m not sure if the window prevents the paper being recycled again….
